Wormald’s scholarship continues to support future talent at La Trobe University
Wormald is proud to continue its partnership with La Trobe University, supporting students through its scholarship program as part of the Make Your Impact campaign. With a second recipient now awarded, the initiative continues to reflect Wormald’s commitment to education and community.
Importantly, the program aligns with Wormald’s Reconciliation Action Plan, supporting greater inclusion, opportunity, and access to education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s recipient, Lillian Smith, an Indigenous student from Tasmania, is studying a Bachelor of Biological Sciences at La Trobe University’s Bundoora campus, where she has embraced the move interstate to pursue her passion for science. With heritage connected to the Mumirimina people of Tasmania’s Oyster Bay tribe (Paredarerme Nation), her background reflects a strong and enduring Aboriginal lineage.

Driven by a strong interest in animals and genetics, Lillian was drawn to La Trobe’s hands-on learning and natural campus environment. The scholarship has helped ease the financial pressures of relocating, while providing reassurance during a significant life transition.
“Receiving the scholarship not only relieved financial stress but showed that others believe in me and my future,” said Lillian.
Living with autism, Lillian experiences sensory sensitivities. The scholarship has also supported her access to essential equipment, helping her stay focused and comfortable in her studies.
“Due to my autism, I am sensitive to loud noises. I manage this with noise-cancelling headphones, and when mine broke, the scholarship meant I could replace them quickly.”
Now immersed in her studies, Lillian is developing a passion for genetics, with ambitions to pursue a career in conservation and invasive species management.
Through initiatives like this, Wormald continues its broader journey of supporting inclusive opportunities and strengthening connections with communities, ensuring that education remains a pathway to meaningful and lasting impact.
We look forward to seeing all that Lillian achieves in the years ahead.
