Wormald Technology awarded six-year Collins Class Submarine Fire Suppression Contract

As a company that has been a part of the Australian fabric for more than 135 years, we understand the special ingredients that create lasting customer relationships.

Recently, our Wormald Technology business – a specialist provider of fire, life safety, and asset protection systems for the defence and marine industry – secured a six-year contract with Australian Submarine Company ASC Pty Ltd to deliver advanced fire suppression and life safety systems for the Collins Class submarine fleet. This extends Wormald Technology’s support of the program to more than 40 years, with the new agreement valued at more than $5 million.

Our unmatched expertise and decades-long commitment to Australia’s sovereign defence capability underpins this partnership, providing mission-critical fire safety solutions that safeguard submariners, vessels, and operations.

Wormald Technology’s involvement dates back to 1985/86, when it became a founding partner in the Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) alongside Kockums AB, Chicago Bridge and Iron, and the Australian Industry Development Corporation.

Our specialised knowledge in fire protection and life safety engineering was integral to the design and build of the Collins Class submarines and remains vital to their sustainment today.

Jon Buckley, Wormald Director – Defence & Marine, said the new contract highlights Wormald Technology’s reputation as a trusted partner in Australia’s defence industry. “It is an honour and privilege to continue our long-standing role with ASC and the Royal Australian Navy, delivering mission-critical fire protection, life safety engineering systems and asset protection solutions for the Collins Class submarines. Wormald Technology takes great pride in contributing to the protection of those who serve and ensuring that one of Australia’s most important defence assets continues to operate at peak performance whenever and wherever required.”

ASC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Whiley, echoed this sentiment. “Long-standing partners like Wormald play a vital role in sustaining the Collins Class submarines – one of Australia’s most strategically important defence assets. Wormald Technology’s advanced fire safety systems directly support the men and women of the Royal Australian Navy and help to ensure the fleet remains at the highest level of readiness.”

This new agreement continues Wormald Technology’s proud tradition of delivering world-class fire safety innovation to protect people, assets, and national interests across the Australian defence sector.
