Give to Gain: The women of Wormald
This International Women’s Day, the theme `Give to Gain’ highlights a simple idea: when organisations invest in women, everyone benefits.
At Wormald, that investment is reflected in real experiences, through giving opportunities, flexibility, and trust. We spoke with eight female employees to hear how Wormald has shaped their careers and supported work-life balance.
Angelina Zakaria – FE & Training Manager / AUSGRID Contract Manager / Service Delivery Manager, Sydney
“Mentorship has helped me grow across Wormald’s complex projects, with real pathways to move into leadership roles. I’ve been fortunate to have mentors who champion women in the industry,” said Zakaria.
“A ‘family first’ culture also allows me to attend school events and balance personal commitments.
“The support I get at work gives me confidence both professionally and personally.”
Nicole Stocker – Mining Operations Manager, Adelaide
“Wormald has provided me with significant opportunities through trust, responsibility, and exposure to complex mining environments,” said Stocker.
“Leading major client relationships, including the BHP contract, and building the Minor Works division from the ground up, are achievements I’m incredibly proud of.
“The autonomy I’ve been given has helped me grow professionally and personally, and I’m proud to demonstrate that women can lead and build high-performing operations in the fire protection industry.”
Amina Bekric – Marketing Manager, Sydney
“I started at Wormald 16-years ago as a university graduate, and today, I’m the Marketing Manager,” said Bekric.
“Over that time, I’ve grown alongside the business, expanding my technical knowledge and leadership capability.
“While with Wormald, I’ve had three children, and the company’s support through part-time arrangements and work-from-home flexibility has allowed me to continue progressing professionally while supporting my family. Also, knowing our work protects lives gives me a real sense of purpose.”
Fiona Healy – Testing Manager, Perth
“I started at Wormald 10 years ago as an Account Manager, and now I’m the Testing Manager in Perth,” said Healy.
“Wormald provides great career development opportunities. I’ve been able to move across different areas of the business and broaden my experience.
“Flexibility has also been key, and our supportive team, who always bring light office banter, make the difference in balancing work and personal life.”
Ashley Jones – Woolworths Project Administrator
“Working with engineers, account managers, and major clients has strengthened my skills and understanding of the industry, while exposure to complex projects has broadened my knowledge and capability,” said Jones.
“Being a mum of two, flexibility matters, and Wormald has been hugely supportive.
“I feel grateful to have workplace flexibility while also being trusted to manage my responsibilities autonomously.”
Kelly Cross – Key Account Manager, Health, Victoria
“Returning from maternity leave part-time helped me transition into working motherhood,” said Cross.
“Now my children are older, I’m back full-time with additional responsibilities, still supported by Wormald to attend school and sporting events, with understanding colleagues that don’t mind if a child’s voice pops up in the background!”
Nairada Brown – Key Account Manager, Queensland
“After 15-years away from the fire protection industry, Wormald gave me the chance to re-enter and rebuild my career, providing a platform to pursue my professional ambitions while maintaining a healthy work-life balance,” said Brown.
“The supportive environment empowers me to grow professionally, while still enjoying time with family and my grandson.
“It’s rewarding to work in a role that allows me to thrive both professionally and personally.”
Rhonda Younan – EHS Manager, Queensland
“Working four days a week, with one from home, has allowed me to stay in a managerial role while being present for my four children,” said Younan.
“That flexibility has been key to balancing leadership responsibilities and career progression, with family life.”
Opportunity in action
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women of Wormald who continue to grow, lead, and balance both their career and family life. Their experiences show what `Give to Gain’ is truly about: investing in people benefits everyone.
