Wormald continues its industry support as sponsor of the 2021 Barry Lee Technical Excellence Award

The Barry Lee Technical Excellence Award will be presented at the 2021 Fire Protection Industry Awards Gala on May 12, 2021 in Sydney at Cockle Bay Wharf. This year, for the first time, the awards night will be formally incorporated into the Fire Australia conference dinner, celebrating and recognising professionalism and outstanding achievements within the industry.

Wormald is proud to return as sponsor of the Barry Lee Technical Excellence Award, which recognises professional excellence and outstanding technical contribution to the Australian fire protection industry. The award has a rich history which honours Barry Lee OAM for his achievements gained over 50 years in the industry including his role as a founding member of Fire Protection Australia.

These achievements started in 1952 when Barry Lee OAM was studying mechanical engineering and working for an elevator company. In this role, an interface problem came up and he was sent to the company that supplied the elevator shaft’s fire protection equipment, which was Wormald. Fascinated with Wormald’s work, he applied for a formal position.

In 1989, Barry Lee OAM received a United Nations Environment Program Citation of Excellence in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the protection of the Earth’s Ozone Layer, and in 1990 he was honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for services to industry, in particular the area of fire protection. While the 2021 award winner is yet to be announced, a judging panel will review the shortlisted candidates based on their merits, achievements, and ability to demonstrate the ways in which technical expertise has been used to overcome challenges, collaborate with others and drive positive organisational change.
